Hey, I’m Malachi, a senior Finance student at The Ohio State University. Outside of classes, I’ve been diving into the world of beatboxing for the past four years, and it’s become my biggest passion. I’m the 2025 Ohio Beatbox Champion and the founder of Buckeye Beatbox, Ohio State University’s 1st-ever beatbox-dedicated student organization. I started Buckeye Beatbox to create a community where people can come together, have fun, and get better at beatboxing while supporting each other along the way.
I’m also the Logistics Chair for Buck That! A cappella. I’ve spent the last two years performing and working alongside the group, and I’ve had the pleasure of performing on the ICCA stage for the last three years, which has been an amazing experience.
When it comes to teaching and sharing what I’ve learned, I’m all about helping others discover the fun of beatboxing and exploring their creativity. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to level up your skills, I’m here to guide you through the process, help you find your own unique sound, and most importantly, have a blast doing it. Outside of mastering techniques and competing in battles, beatboxing is truly about about self-expression, confidence, and exploration.
The catalyst for my beatboxing journey was watching the 2021 Grand Beatbox Battle on a YouTube livestream (in my opinion, the greatest beatbox competition of all time), though I had been watching beatbox videos for months leading up to it. Seeing the highest level of competition in action inspired me in a way I couldn’t ignore. Right then and there, I decided I would learn how to beatbox.
Despite how impossible it seemed at the time, I was determined to get as good as the people on that stage. I dove into YouTube tutorials, focused on the sounds I wanted to master, and dedicated hours every day to developing my sound and expanding my palette. Some techniques took days to grasp, while others took months, but through it all I had a blast experimenting and expressing myself through music.
A couple of years into my journey, I had the opportunity to attend my first live beatbox competition and was surprised by how well I held my own alongside some of the best in the country. I met incredibly talented people, made lifelong friends, and have since attended many beatbox events. I continue to hone my craft every day by attending live events, creating new routines, and discovering fresh ways to express my style.
All that hard work paid off when I won 2025 Ohio Beatbox Championship! Which was especially gratifying after having come 2nd the previous year. It’s been an incredible journey, and now I’m even more determined to share my love for beatboxing with others. That’s why I started Buckeye Beatbox at OSU! In order to create a space where others can grow and express themselves through beatboxing. My goal now is to help anyone who wants to dive deeper into the beatbox craft and find their unique voice through this artform.
